Lake District Trip - 31st May to 5th June 2025

Various photographs taken on the trip by Colin Rumary. The tour began with a visit to The Lowry Gallery on Slaford Quays. The second day consisted of a cruise on Lake Windermere by historic lake steamer, a sightseeing visit to Ambleside, including Lunch, before moving on to the Laurel and Hardy Museum. On the third day we visited Stott Park Bobbin Mill, the only working bobbin mill left in the Lake District before moving on to Honister Slate Mine. The following day we went to Coniston, to visit the Ruskin Museum, dedicated to Arthur Ransome and Donald Campbell. and displaying Bluebird K7. Later we visited Levens Hall, home to the world’s oldest topiary gardens and a stunning Elizabethan house with links to the Duke of Wellington. The penultimate dayy saw us take a trip on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Steam Railway, where we enjoyed the picturesque countryside scenery of the Leven Valley. Following lunch in the pleasant Cartmel Village visited Holker Hall, a beautiful stately family home created in the 17th century and rebuilt to luxurious standards after a tragic fire destroyed most of the house in 1871. The final day saw us visit Tatton Park, one of the most complete historic estates open to the public, before returning to Woking.
