Woking Leisure Centre 50+ Club

Joining

To join Woking Leisure Centre 50+ Club just  come along to Woking Leisure Centre for one of the sessions and ask at Reception and they will arrange for one of the committee to show you round and explain to you how the club works. Alternatively just come along to one of our Walks - we'll be pleased to help.

You will be required to complete a short application form and undertake to keep your contact details up to date.

Sessions

Sessions at the Woking Leisure Centre are Monday 2pm - 5pm, Tuesday: 2pm - 5pm, and  Thursday: 09:15am - 12:30pm.

There is also a session at  the Eastwood Leisure Centre in Sheerwater (next to Bishop David Brown School) on Sundays 9am - 12pm. .

There are no sessions on Bank Holidays.

Prices

Each session at the Leisure Centre costs £5.20 for those over 60 and £6.50 otherwise. You do need a Woking Key card, at a cost of £8.00 per year, to get these rates, and to get access to the Gym. Walks are generally free. Other events and activities are priced as indicated when published in the Events section.

Entry to Leisure Centre

You must have your Key card with you and should report to Reception. 50+ Members who have annual or monthly membership can book into sessions using the two Self Service Kiosks in the Leisure Centre Reception area.

Activities

The main activities available during 50+ sessions in the Woking Leisure Centre are short tennis, badminton, keep-fit, table tennis, squash/racketball, short mat bowls, steam room, gym, jacuzzi, sauna, water workout, and swim in the leisure lagoon. Details of these activities are on the application form.

At Eastwood there are 2 table tennis tables in studio 1 upstairs, 5 courts available in the main hall, 3 for short tennis and 2 for badminton. The swimming pool and the gym are also available. Parking is free of charge.

Walks

Walks of about five miles take place on the third Wednesday of each month, usually starting at 10am and lasting until lunchtime. In addition shorter walks are organised in evenings in the Summer, usually starting at 17:00 and lasting for less than two hours. Most participants then have a meal in the nearby pub. Details of these walks are usually published in the Events section about four weeks beforehand. Walks are usually free of charge.

Due to the possible trip and fall hazard that they present to our members, we regret that dogs are not welcome on the walks.

Each walk leader is required to carry out a formal Risk Assessment of each walk. Details of this can be found on the Walks Risk Assessment page.

In addition there is a walking group organised by “Give”, a local charity, that operates every Friday. Meet at 11:30 at the Eastwood Leisure Centre for a one hour "social" walk returning at 12:30 for a coffee.This walking group used to be facilitated by Freedom Leisure and Woking Council until it was taken over by “Give”. Trips

From time to time trips, outings and holidays are organised to various places of interest. These are advertised on the Events page on this site.

In order to show that Woking Leisure Centre 50+ Club can organise safe trips etc a Risk Assessment Document has been produced which is completed for each such trip by the leader. A Word Document of the blank form can be found by clicking here and a PDF Version by clicking here.

Constitution

The club is a properly constituted club with a constitution.

AGMs

(3 May) An Annual General Meeting (AGM) is held at the Leisure Centre each year in April. The most recent paperwork is the 2024 AGM Agenda and 2024 AGM Minutes. See also Paperwork for previous AGMs. 

Equipment

Suitable equipment is available for members use when they attend activities at 50+ sessions. Leisure Centre management and Club Committee Members have worked together to improve the availability of this equipment. In particular, new smaller size bowls are available and can be borrowed by applying to a committee member.

The short tennis balls provided free of charge by the Leisure Centre have NOT proved popular with members.   We have a stock of the short tennis balls members prefer for sale at £3.00 each.

Woking Leisure Centre 50+ Club does not collect any personal data from users of its website and neither reads nor writes cookies.
